Arthur Pitt

Class of 1959· Disciplines(s): Men's Artistic· Inducted as: Athlete

Like the great gymnasts of his time, Arthur Pitt was awarded Honorary Olympian Team membership for the boycotted 1940 and 1944 Olympic Games, but not competing in the Games of the early 1940s did not tarnish Pitt’s career. Pitt finished his career with 16 AAU National Titles, recording at least one championship in every possible event.

A University of Iowa graduate, Pitt was described by coach Albert Baumgartner as the “greatest gymnastics prospect ever to enroll in a Midwestern university.” The one-time Olympian went on to be a sheet metal worker.
