Chester Phillips

The bulk of Chester Phillips’ career was spent coaching at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he turned out a Hall of Fame career. In his 26 years as head coach of the Midshipmen, his teams collected three Eastern Team titles, and he coached 27 ECAC individual event champions, 11 NCAA individual event champions, and one Olympian.

The former Temple standout is credited as the founder of the College Gymnastics Association, where he served as president, and he served on three Olympic committees. Phillips was honored with the National Coach of the Year Award in 1961.
