Kristie Phillips-Bannister

Kristie Phillips-Bannister dominated the late 1980s, raking in championships at the national level. She earned appearances on the covers of Sports Illustrated, People, USA Gymnastics, and International Gymnast in 1986 and 1987 because of her accomplishments.

Between 1985 and 1987, her competitive accomplishments included: 1985-86 Junior National Champion; 1986 U.S. Olympic Festival and McDonald’s American Cup gold medalist; 1987 McDonald’s American Cup, McDonald’s Challenge, and U.S. Champion; and selection as a second alternate for the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team.

Phillips-Bannister attended Louisiana State University, where she studied theatre and journalism. Following competition, Phillips-Bannister appeared in movies and did stunts for TV shows. After marrying, she made a comeback after 11 years to compete at the 1996-98 Reese’s Cups and the 1999-2000 USA Championships. Phillips-Bannister was also a Brevet Judge.
