Phoebe Mills

One of the many athletes coached by Bela and Martha Karolyi, Phoebe Mills was a member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team. Along with the fourth-place team finish, she also won the bronze medal on the balance beam.

Mills was the first U.S. female gymnast to medal in a non-boycotted Olympic Games. That year she also won the U.S. National Championships. She was also named Gymnast of The Year by the USOC and was nominated for the AAU’s Sullivan Award.

Upon the completion of her gymnastics career, Mills went on to become a diver at the University of Miami. She specialized in the 10-Meter platform event. As a diver, she attended Olympic Festivals and U.S. Nationals. She was the Big East Conference Champion for three years running, and she also made the U.S. National Diving Team in 1994.

Mills holds a BA in environmental policy from the University of Miami.
