Bill Matthei’s career lasted more than 60 years and spanned all areas of competitive gymnastics from athlete to administrator. As a high school coach, Matthei led Bay View High School (Wisc.) to one national, five regional, 11 state, and 13 local championships. He judged Big Ten meets for 41 years, which is a national record among major conference judges. Matthei also won the Ohio State University Big Ten Coach’s Award for his contributions as an instructor of the sport.
