Eric Hughes has been called many names in his life and career—Illini, NCAA Champion, and Pilot Officer for the Canadian Air Force— but no name has held more weight than Coach. Hughes took the reins at the University of Washington in 1950, and in the time he was head coach, he compiled a 109-17 record. Twice he was named an international coach, the first in 1961 for the U.S. Team, and then again 11 years later for the Olympic team that competed in Munich, Germany.
Since retirement, Hughes published Gymnastics for Men and Gymnastics for Girls and was a patron for the University of Washington gymnastics program.
