Edward Gagnier

Ed Gagnier was an athlete-turned coach-turned administrator. Knowledge gained as a young man matured into wisdom that helped him to coach the 1970 men’s World University Games Team to a bronze medal— the first American medal on European soil in 46 years. He started the gymnastics program at Iowa State, where his teams won eight conference championships and three NCAA team titles in his 22 years. As an athlete, Gagnier represented Canada in the 1956 Olympic Games and enjoyed success at the University of Michigan, where he won gold at on the pommel horse in the 1957 Big Ten Championships.
