The combination of four varsity letters and captain status at Southern Illinois in college with a legendary coaching run at Washington State earned Dr. Hubert Dunn the nickname the “Father of Collegiate Gymnastics in the state of Washington. While most coaches’ success is measured by athletes’ success— his coaching record was .702— his achievement came in the programs and events his vision created. The establishments of the Pacific Northwest College Gymnastics Championships and numerous camps, clinics, and championships made him a vital figurehead in Washington. He later went on to coach at Northern Illinois for 10 seasons, putting together eight winning teams.
