Before Marshall Brown, the US was simply a participant in the international gymnastics picture. That all changed when Brown founded the Dallas Athletic Club, which generated enormous interest in the sport. In 1979, that interest that Brown helped foster developed into the first World Championships held in the US, as the Dallas-Fort Worth region played host.
