INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 21, 2012 – On Saturday, Sept. 22, USA Gymnastics and the gymnastics community plan to "Turn the World Upside Down" for this year’s National Gymnastics Day to celebrate Team USA’s success at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, and the incredible impact being active can have on a child’s life.

At 1 p.m. ET Saturday, join gymnasts, coaches, gymnastics clubs and fans alike as they turn upside down, and then share a photo of those upside down, along with the number of individuals participating, on the USA Gymnastics Facebook page. The goal is to exceed the 20,478 individuals who set a world record for simultaneously performed handstands in 2011.

Many clubs around the United States use the National Gymnastics Day event as an opportunity to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in a club’s local community. Since 2001, gymnastics clubs across the country have raised more than $1.7 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The United States won six medals at the Olympic Games in London – the women’s team gold medal; the women’s all-around gold medal, Gabby Douglas of Virginia Beach, Va./Chow’s Gymnastics; the women’s floor exercise gold medal, Alexandra Raisman of Needham, Mass./Brestyan’s American Gymnastics; the -women’s vault silver medal, McKayla Maroney of Long Beach, Fla./All-Olympia Gymnastics; the men’s all-around bronze medal, Danell Leyva of Miami/Team Hilton HHonors; and the women’s floor exercise bronze medal, Raisman.
