RESULTS:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., March 10, 2009 – Steven Gluckstein of Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Head Over Heels, won senior men’s trampoline and synchronized trampoline at the 2009 Winter Classic, held March 6-9 in Birmingham, Ala.

Gluckstein earned a total score of 108.10 in senior men’s trampoline to best second-place finisher Michael Devine of Winnebago, Ill./J & J Tumbling and Trampoline, and third-place finisher Logan Dooley of Lake Forest, Calif./World Elite Gymnastics. Dooley and Gluckstein teamed to win men’s synchronized trampoline with a score of 135.80. The pair of Derrick Aldrich of Windermere, Fla./Independent, and Justice Frangipane of Mission Viejo, Calif./World Elite Gymnastics, were second and the duo of Austin White of Newport Coast, Calif./World Elite Gymnastics, and Neil Gulati of Irvine, Calif./World Elite Gymnastics, were third.

In senior men’s double mini-trampoline, Stephen Raymond of Orlando, Fla./Stick It! Gymnastics, earned the top spot with a 139.20, followed by Corey Whitfield of Detroit, Mich./AGT Flip City, in second and Canada’s Luke Friesen in third. Jeffrey Brown of Huntsville, Ala./The Matrix T&T Team, posted a 128.60 to win senior men’s tumbling, with Canada’s Andrew Egyed placing second and Brandon Sloan of Forest, Va./Capital Gymnastics, finishing third.

Nani Vercruyssen of Honolulu, Hawaii/Hawaii Academy, placed first in senior women’s trampoline with a score of 98.50. Alaina Williams of Amarillo, Texas/The Matrix T&T Team, finished second and Hayley Butcher of St. John, Ind./Midwest Training Center, placed third. Aubree Balkan of Carlsbad, Calif./Bounce California, won senior women’s double mini with a 135.70, followed by Sarah Prosen of Apple Valley, Minn./Gypsy Flyers, in second and Canada’s Corissa Boychuk in third. Posting a score of 123.80 to win senior women’s tumbling was Leanne Seitzinger of Stafford, Va./Novak’s Gymnastics. Canada’s Ashley Speed and Kylie Petrie rounded out the top three in second and third, respectively.

The champions in the junior division were: men – Hunter Brewster of Lafayette, La./Trampoline & Tumbling Express, trampoline; Brewster and Austin Nacey of Braidwood, Ill./Dyna-Mite T&T, synchronized trampoline; Alex Renkert of Indianapolis, Ind./Interactive Academy, double mini; and Aaron Cook of Detroit, Mich./AGT Flip City, tumbling; and women – Jane Truster of Lee’s Summit, Mo./Twist-n-Shout Gymnastics, trampoline; Brittany Caddell of Levelland, Texas/Acrospirits, and Shaylee Dunavin of Amarillo, Texas/Trinity Trampoline & Tumbling, synchronized trampoline; Dunavin, double mini; and Kiara Nowlin of Oxnard, Calif./Waller’s GymJam Academy, tumbling.

The Level 10 winners in the women’s competition were: 14 and younger – Andrea Ghanian of Holdmel, N.J./Head Over Heels, trampoline; Mary Rossi of Plano, Texas/Eagle’s Wings Athletics, double mini; and Jessica Allen of Kenner, La./Elmwood Gymnastics, tumbling; and 15 and older – Lydia Johnson of San Diego, Calif./So Cal TTC, trampoline; Erin Jauch of Crystal Lake, Ill./Fox Valley T&T, double mini; and Breanne Hutchison of East Peoria, Ill./Central Illinois Gymnastics Academy, tumbling. Winning women’s Level 10 synchronized trampoline were Ghanian and Meghan O’Connell of Middletown, N.J./Head Over Heels.

The Level 10 champions in the men’s competition were: 14 and younger – Cody Gesuelli of Middletown, N.J./Head Over Heels, trampoline; and Sam Chiacchia of Colorado Springs, Colo./ArtSports, double mini; and 15 and older – Jack Langford of Montclair, Va./Novak’s Gymnastics, trampoline; Matt Bengston of Newhall, Calif./Waller’s GymJam Academy, double mini; and Joshua Kensil of Mackinaw, Ill/Central Illinois Gymnastics Academy, tumbling. Gesuelli and Colin Duda of Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Head Over Heels, won men’s Level 10 synchronized trampoline.

The Winter Classic was the first of two required qualifying competitions to the Visa Championships for junior and senior elite athletes, and those athletes also may receive points in the national team ranking system.
