ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – Ava Gehringer of Evanston, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic, placed seventh in hoop and eighth in ribbon at the World Cup held April 2-5 in St. Petersburg, Russia. She is the first U.S. rhythmic gymnast to qualify for the finals at a World Cup since 2004.

Gehringer posted a 23.875 in hoop and a 22.275 in ribbon to finish seventh and eighth, respectively. 2008 Olympic champion Evgeniya Kanaeva of Russia won the gold medal in hoop, rope and ball, with 2007 rope and ribbon world champion Vera Sessina of Russia claiming the gold medal in ribbon.
