HUNTSVILLE, Texas, Jan. 22, 2016 – The first developmental camp of 2016 just ended at USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center, at the Karolyi Ranch, a U.S. Olympic Training Site. Thirty five athletes participated in the five day camp with two-a-day training sessions led by Valeri Liukin, Developmental Team Coordinator and the national coaching staff.

Each camp begins with physical abilities testing. Alyona Shchennikova from 5280 Gymnastics placed first in testing followed by Aria Brusch of Cincinnati Gymnastics, third place was Hannah Hagle of Texas East Gymnastics.

Verification was held at this camp with Cheryl Hamilton, a FIG Brevet judge and 2016 Olympic judge reviewing routines of the athletes. Many new floor routines were performed along with new skill combinations and upgrades to their routines. Athletes and coaches are preparing for the upcoming National Qualifiers in February.

Kalyany Steele of Colorado Aerials Gymnastics Center was selected most improved camper.

The next developmental camp will take place in February.
