HUNTSVILLE, Texas, Feb. 22, 2016 – The second developmental camp of 2016 wrapped up over the weekend at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center at the Karolyi Ranch, an official U.S. Olympic Training Site. Thirty- eight athletes participated in the five-day camp with two-a-day training sessions led by 1988 Olympic champion Valeri Liukin, Developmental Team Coordinator and the national coaching staff.

Each camp begins with physical abilities testing. Gabi Dildy of Excalibur Gymnastics placed first in testing, followed by Aria Brusch of Cincinnati Gymnastics. Alyona Shchennikova from 5280 Gymnastics was third.

Cally Swaney of First in Flight Gymnastics was selected most improved camper.

Many of the gymnasts have been competing in the National Qualifier as Hopes and Junior Elite athletes. During camp, they verified their routines and worked to upgrade skills and combinations.

The next developmental camp will take place in May prior to the Hopes Challenge and American Classic.
