COTTBUS, Germany, Nov. 23, 2019 – 2019 Winter Cup vault champion Colin Van Wicklen of Magnolia, Texas/University of Oklahoma, will compete in tomorrow’s vault and horizontal bar finals on the final day of the 2019 World Cup in Cottbus, Germany. Held at the Lausitz Arena, the finals begin at 2 p.m. local time (six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time), and U.S. fans can watch the action live at 8 a.m. ET at OlympicChannel.com and tape-delayed at 8:30 p.m. ET on the Olympic Channel and NBCSports.com. The event is part of the International Gymnastics Federation’s individual apparatus World Cup Series and the Olympic qualification process.
In the floor exercise final, Van Wicklen earned a 13.333, which yielded seventh place. Japan’s Kazuki Minami won the title at 15.100. Spain’s Rayderley Zapata took second at 14.800, and Great Britain’s Hayden Skinner rounded out the top three at 14.533.
2019 U.S. pommel horse silver-medalist Stephen Nedoroscik of Worcester, Mass./Pennsylvania State University, finished eighth in the pommel horse final at 13.700. China’s Weng Hao claimed the gold medal at 15.000. Japan’s Kaito Imbayashi and Ukraine’s Oleg Verniaiev battled for third, with Imbayashi clinching second 14.966 to 14.866. The still rings champion was Liu Yang of China at 15.133.
Donnell Whittenburg of Baltimore, Md./U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, withdrew from competition due to an injured foot. No U.S. women are competing in this event.
