INDIANAPOLIS, June 22, 2017 – George Drew of Three Rivers, Mich., is retiring as director of the trampoline and tumbling program for USA Gymnastics. Drew, who started in the position in 2015, is stepping down to focus on his family and will continue to serve as volunteer for the program, as well as an emergency room doctor and medical director at Three Rivers Hospital.

“We appreciate George’s efforts during the past few years,” said Ron Galimore, chief operating officer of USA Gymnastics, ”and support him in making this difficult decision. George will return to his former role as a volunteer, as time permits.”

“After a great deal of soul searching and contemplation, I am retiring as program director,” said Drew, who will continue to serve in a volunteer capacity as a team physician. “The demands of a medical career and my extended family have increased considerably, and I need to focus my full attention on my family’s changing needs and directing an emergency medicine department. I am honored to have served as the director for trampoline and tumbling.”

During Drew’s tenure, the United States secured both men’s and women’s trampoline berths to the 2016 Olympic Games; won five medals at the 2015 World Championships (two gold, one silver and two bronze); and qualified for the 2017 World Games in men’s and women’s double mini-trampoline, synchronized trampoline and tumbling. In addition, a national coach was identified for each trampoline and tumbling discipline.

USA Gymnastics has posted the director of trampoline and tumbling job description here. Drew will remain involved through the end of the year and to help with a smooth transition.
