Anna Tortorich and Aaron Cook

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Nov. 19, 2009 – Aaron Cook of Detroit, Mich., and Annalise Tortorich of Centreville, Va., won gold in both boys’ and girls’ 15-16 tumbling at the 2009 World Age Group Trampoline and Tumbling Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia. Competition continues through Nov. 21.

Cook won the tumbling boys’ gold medal with a 35.000. Tortorich topped a close girls’ field with a 31.700.

In synchronized trampoline, Kazakhstan’s,Pirmammad Aliyev and Alexandr Shinkarev won the boys’ 11-12 gold medal (43.500). For the girls, Victoria Karashchan and Maria Zakharchuk of Russia won with a score of 42.600. The USA’s Nicole Ahsinger of San Diego, Calif., and Amanda Spitzer of Vista, Calif., just missed the podium at 40.600 and finished fourth.

The 13-14 boys’ trampoline gold medal went to Spain’s Angel Hernandez Recalde with a score of 37.600. Anna Tarnovska of Ukraine won the girls’ title with a 35.900.

On 17-18 double mini-trampoline, Russia won both gold medals with Mikhail Zalomin (71.600) and Svetlana Karavaeva (67.600). The USA’s Cody Farabee of Queen Creek, Ariz., finished just off the medal stand in fourth place (69.400).

Other U.S. gymnasts that competed in finals today are: Shaylee Dunavin of Amarillo, Texas; Karly Judkins of Owasso, Okla.; and Alicia Grant of Baltimore, Md..
