Acrobatics & Tumbling Athletes of the Week – March 7-12, 2023

Athlete of the Week
Kamryn Kitchens – Baylor

Kitchens, a senior top and tumbler from Kennesaw, Ga., competed in 10 heats and team event for Baylor during a win over the University of Oregon last week. Her performance included eight scores of 9.75 or higher, including a meet-best 9.95 in the compulsory toss and a pair of 9.90 scores in the synchronized pyramid and open toss heats. She also recorded a score of 9.925 in her individual tumbling pass, the aerial.

Specialist of the Week
Jordan Gruendler – Baylor
Gruendler, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, competed as a top in two pyramid heats for Baylor this week. She scored a 9.95 in both the inversion and open pyramid heat. In the inversion pyramid heat, she performs an extended handstand on a mid-level base, before dismounting from the handstand in a free fall. In the open pyramid heat, she competes an extended straddle press to handstand on a mid-level base.

Freshman of the Week
Jenna Hall – Mary Hardin-Baylor
Hall, a top and tumbler from Houston, Texas, competed in nine heats and team event for Mary Hardin-Baylor last week. Her performance included three scores of 9.50 or higher, including a 9.65 in both the compulsory pyramid and compulsory toss. She also scored a 9.30 (out of 9.55) in the open tumbling pass.

Athlete of the Week
Kathryn Coker – Limestone
Coker contributed to the success this weekend in seven different heats and team event. In the compulsory event she put up scores of a 9.7/10.0 in compulsory pyramid and an 8.1 in compulsory tumbling. In the acro event she performed the 5 element acro heat scoring a 8.7/9.9, her first time ever competing in the acro event. She opened up the pyramid event with an elite level pyramid performing a 1-1 High Hand in Hand and scored a 8.75/10.0. With the Saints trailing at halftime, Coker completed a back double toss to score a 9.4/9.9 in the 450 salto and a 8.9/9.9 in the synch toss. She then propelled Limestone to the lead in the tumbling event as she performed a trio pass with a RO BHS BL540 scoring a 8.3/9.1. She also completed high start value skills in the team event to help Limestone remain unbeaten on the year.

Athlete of the Week
Abbie Baker – Frostburg State
Baker, a junior top and tumbler from Berlin, Md., competed in 12 heats and team event as Frostburg State rolled to a tri-meet victory over East Stroudsburg and Saint Leo last week. Her performance was highlighted by a 9.875 in the open tumbling pass. She also helped Frostburg to four additional scores of 9.70 or higher, including a 9.75 in the compulsory pyramid, inversion pyramid and synchronized pyramid, and a 9.70 in the five-element acro.
