Gymnast of the Week awards are given by conference offices and the College Gymnastics Association. More will be added throughout the week as they become available.
Gymnast of the Week
Drake Andrews – Ohio State
* Won the all-around at the Ohio State Open on Sunday with a career-high score of 79.4000
* Scored third place finishes in the floor exercise (13.500) and on parallel bars (13.650), both career-best scores
* Garners his first career Gymnast of the Week award
Event Specialist of the Week
Aaronson Mansberger – Michigan
* Won the pommel horse at the Ohio State Open with a score of 14.900
* The score was a career-best and the highest in the country this season
* Earns his second consecutive Event Specialist of the Week award
Freshman of the Week
Shaun Smith, – Penn State
* Scored a third-place tie in the vault with a score of 14.100 to lead the Nittany Lions
* Finished fourth in the floor exercise with a score of 12.850
* Earns his first Freshman of the Week honor
Gymnast of the Week
Brian Solomon – Navy
In a field of five ECAC schools and Penn State at the West Point Open, Solomon was the top ECAC finisher in the all-around competition with a score of 77.55. He ranked third overall trailing the PSU duo of Landon Simpson (78.55) and Akseli Karsikas (78.35.) He qualified for a pair of event finals; the pommel horse (13.3, 7th on Friday) and parallel bars (13.15, 6th on Friday). Unfortunately, Navy was unable to make it back to West Point for the event finals due to inclement weather, ending Solomon’s weekend.
Routine of the Week
Maddox Pabellon – Army
Pabellon qualified in first place to the event finals with a 14.2, repeating as event champion to win his third West Point Open pommel horse title. This is Maddox’s 15th career event title on pommel horse alone.
Rookie of the Week
Nicholas Kosarikov – William & Mary
In his collegiate debut, Kosarikov performed well and contributed to the Tribe’s team score on four events. His highlighs include making finals on both parallel bars (13.2) and high bar (12.35.)
Gymnast of the Week
David Shamah – Stanford
Stanford junior David Shamah (McKinney, TX) led the Cardinal with a pair of event victories at the Rocky Mountain Open (Jan. 17), to contribute to an overall 320.750 team score. He earned a share of the parallel bars title after posting a career-best 14.500, while also capturing the all-around crown with a 79.700. Shamah’s all-around stands as the highest score in the nation this season, and his parallel bars mark is tied for the NCAA’s best. This is the second career MPSF weekly award for Shamah.
Specialist of the Week
Nick Kuebler – Stanford
Stanford redshirt-senior Nick Kuebler (Seattle, WA) continued his impressive start to the season with a high bar title after a 14.000 routine, leading to a 320.750 overall team score at the Rocky Mountain Open (Jan. 17). Kuebler added runner-up finishes on floor exercise (13.950) and still rings (14.050). In a repeat of last week, this is the second career MPSF weekly award for Kuebler.
Freshman of the Week
Sasha Bobonsiuk – Oklahoma
Oklahoma freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk (Buffalo Grove, IL) earned a second-place 79.650 total at the Rocky Mountain Open (Jan. 17), to contribute to a first-place 323.950 overall Sooner total. He tied for second on vault with his 14.100 and fourth on floor exercise with his 13.900. He also scored 13.500 on parallel bars, 12.900 on pommel horse, 12.750 on high bar and 12.500 on still rings. This is the first career MPSF award for Bogonosiuk
