NEW HAVEN, Conn., April 9, 2009 – Texas Woman’s University’s Rashonda Cannie, Temple University’s Katie Canning and Yale University’s Alina Liao tied for the all-around title at the 2009 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate Championships at Southern Connecticut State University’s Moore Fieldhouse in New Haven, Conn. Competition continues with team finals on April 10 at 7 p.m. and individual event finals on April 11 at 1 p.m.

The three gymnasts posted a score of 38.725 to share the all-around crown. Canning, a sophomore at Temple, earned the day’s top score on vault with a 9.825 and Cannie, a freshman at Texas Woman’s University, topped the field on uneven bars with a 9.725. Liao is a senior at Yale.

Defending champion Texas Woman’s University topped the team qualification round with a score of 192.850, followed by the University of Bridgeport in second with a 191.325. The College of William and Mary and Cornell University are tied for third place at 190.800. All four schools advanced to the team finals.

Other schools competing in the 2009 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate Championships are: meet host Southern Connecticut, Brown University, Centenary College, Rutgers University, Seattle Pacific University, Temple University, U.S. Air Force Academy, West Chester University of Pennsylvania and Yale University.

Tickets can be purchased at Moore Fieldhouse and cash is the only acceptable form of payment. Single-day tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per student/senior citizen.
