INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., October 14, 2001 – With the Pan American Games set to open later today in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the final days of the 2011 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Tokyo, USA Gymnastics fans have plenty to look forward to this weekend, Oct. 14-16.
First, fans can relive the action in the 2011 World Championships men’s all-around competition, where John Orozco of the Bronx, N.Y./U.S. Olympic Training Center, finished fifth, on Universal Sports television beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Oct. 14.
Then, TerraUSA begins its live coverage of the 2011 Pan American Games on Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. ET with the opening ceremonies.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, the first of two days of event final competition in Tokyo kicks off at 12:30 a.m. ET live on UniversalSports.com. Team USA will be represented by:
- Women’s Vault – McKayla Maroney of Laguna Niguel, Calif./All Olympia AOGC
- Women’s Uneven Bars – Gabrielle Douglas of Virginia Beach, Va./Chow’s Gymnastics and Dance Institute and Jordyn Wieber of DeWitt, Mich./Gedderts’ Twistars USA
- Men’s Floor Exercise – Steven Legendre of Port Jefferson, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (University of Oklahoma)
- Men’s Still Rings – Jonathan Horton of Houston/Team Hilton HHonors (Cypress Academy)
Universal Sports TV will air the competition later in the day, beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
In the afternoon on Saturday, NBC Sports will broadcast the exciting women’s team final from the World Championships, where Team USA claimed its third-ever team gold medal. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET.
Next, competition in rhythmic gymnastics begins in Guadalajara with the all-around finals and individual event qualification at 5 p.m. with coverage again available live through TerraUSA. Competing for Team USA are 2011 U.S. national all-around champion Shelby Kisiel of Missouri City, Texas/North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, and Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md./Capital Rhythmics, who recently claimed the highest finish by an American at the rhythmic world championships.
Four Americans will represent Team USA in Tokyo on Sunday, beginning at 1 a.m. ET with live coverage on UniversalSports.com. In the final day of competition from Tokyo, two women, Aly Raisman of Needham, Mass./Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, and Wieber, will compete on the balance beam and floor exercise. The men will be represented by Danell Leyva of Homestead, Fla./Team Hilton HHonors (Universal Gymnastics), on parallel bars, and Orozco on high bar. Universal Sports TV will once again replay the competition at 8 p.m. ET.
On Sunday afternoon, starting at 2 p.m. ET, NBC Sports will air coverage of the women’s all-around competition, featuring Wieber, who became just the sixth American woman to win the title, and Raisman, who finished fourth.
Finally, the first day of group rhythmic competition begins at the Pan Am Games at 5 p.m. ET on TerraUSA. Sunday’s competition serves as both the all-around final and qualification for individual apparatus finals.
