SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 18, 2007 – Rebecca Bross of Plano, Texas, won the junior national all-around title with a score of 119.40 at the 2007 Visa Championships at the HP Pavilion at San Jose (Calif.). Samantha Shapiro of Los Angeles took second all-around with a total score of 117.50, followed by Jordyn Wieber of Dewitt, Mich., in third with a 116.20.

 
Bross, who had the lead entering the final day, started on beam and despite a fall on her standing Arabian, she scored 14.65 to ahead of the pack. Bross also successfully performed a double Arabian dismount. She moved to floor exercise, where she scored a 15.400, the high score of the day on this event. On vault she scored a 15.000 for her Yurchenko double full, then wrapped up the title on bars, nailing her full-twisting double back dismount to score a 15.400.
 
"I’m pretty excited to win the all-around," said Bross, who competed for WOGA. "I love competing floor. It’s the big event. I can go out there and show my routine."
 
Shapiro started out on vault, landing a clean Yurchenko full for a 14.150 and was in second place after the first rotation. She dropped to third after bars, scoring a 14.600 for a solid and clean routine, complete with a full-twisting, double-back dismount. She moved into second in the all-around after beam, scoring a 14.800 despite a fall on her double-pike dismount. Shapiro finished her rotation on floor exercise, where she earned a 15.050.
 
"It feels awesome to finish second all-around," said Shapiro, who competes for All-Olympia. "My goal was to do the best I could and get experience for upcoming meets."
 
Wieber was third after the first round of competition where she scored a 14.350 on bars. She moved into second after an impressive beam routine, complete with a standing full twist, to score a 14.900. She took a fall on floor and scored a 13.600 which dropped her to third in the all-around. She finished on vault, where she performed a Yurchenko double-full to score a 14.850.
 
"I finished ninth all-around last year and my goal for this year was to finish higher," said Shapiro, who competes for Geddert’s. "It feels great to finish third all-around."
 
The champions were determined by combining the scores from both competition days. Bross took first on vault with a 29.750, Wieber was second with 29.550 and Corrie Lothrop was third with 29.250.
 
On bars, Bross won bars with 29.250, followed by Shapiro with 29.000 and Wieber with a 28.800.
 
Shapiro won beam with a 30.400, followed by a tie for second with a 29.700 between Bross and Wieber.
 
Bross won floor with a 30.700. Shapiro was second with a 29.850 and Mattie Larson was third with a 29.250.
