HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 14, 2010 – Rebecca Bross of Plano, Texas, won her first Visa Championships all-around title with a score of 120.300 at the 2010 Visa Championships at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. She also took top honors on both the balance beam and uneven bars, with a silver medal for the floor exercise. 2008 Olympic team silver-medalist Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass., became the first U.S. women to win five national vault titles.
Bross won the balance beam title with a score of 30.900, complete with her standing Arabian and double Arabian dismount, and the uneven bars title with a score of 30.050, showing her stalder full to Tkatchev and full-twisting double-back dismount. Bross was also second on floor with a score of 29.700.
“I felt really good,” said Bross, who trains at WOGA. “I made all of my routines and I did what I hoped to do. [Winning the Visa Championships] was always a big goal for me and I’m just happy to be able to do it now.”
Mattie Larson of Los Angeles, Calif./All Olympia, finished second in the all-around with a score of 117.00 and grabbed the floor title with a score of 30.350. Larson’s floor routine included a double layout mount, a triple full, a two-and-a-half twist to punch layout front and a double pike dismount. Larson also was third on bars with a score of 29.000.
Alexandra Raisman of Needham, Mass./Brestyan’s Gymnastics, claimed the bronze medal in the all-around with a score of 115.650, and finished third on beam and floor with scores of 28.300 and 29.500, respectively.
Sacramone, who trains at Brestyan’s, won her fifth national vault crown with a combined average of 30.675, competing a front handspring front Rudi and a double-twisting Yurchenko. She also was second on beam with a score of 29.800.
Vanessa Zamarripa of Shiloh, Ill./UCLA was second on vault with a score of 28.675 and Brandie Jay of Fort Collins, Colo./GK Gymnastics was third with a score of 28.150.
Cassandra Whitcomb of Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics was second on bars with a score of 29.400.
Marvin Sharp of Sharp’s Gymnastics in Indianapolis and Valeri Liukin of WOGA in Plano, Texas, are co-coaches of the year. Bross was named Athlete of the Year and Sacramone Sportsperson of the Year.
