Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, along with Bela Karolyi and USA Gymnastics President Steve Penny, unveiled the temporary new name for Philadelphia’s storied Broad Street. For the duration of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics, scheduled for June 19-22 at the Wachovia Center, Broad Street has been dubbed “The Road to Beijing.” In addition to the Mayor, Karolyi and Penny, local gymnasts from Temple University, Parkettes and Accelerations Gymnastics Club entertained the crowds prior to the unveiling. Larry Needle of the Philadelphia Sports Congress was also a speaker.
