BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, Oct. 15, 2018 – Brandon Briones of Gilbert, Ariz./Aspire Kids Sports Center, just missed the medal podium for fourth place in the horizontal bar final at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Gymnastics wraps up at the Games tomorrow with the rhythmic gymnastics all-around at 5 p.m. local time (4. p.m. ET), and Elizabeth Kapitonova of Staten Island, N.Y./Isadora, is the third reserve athlete. Briones scored a 13.133 (4.600, difficulty; 8.533, execution) in the horizontal bar final, just behind Hungary’s Krisztian Balazs’ 13.233, who took third place. Japan’s Takeru Kitazono had the top score at 13.566. Brazil’s Diogo Soares was second at 13.266. Briones was the first reserve athlete for the parallel bars final and did not compete. Kitazono also won the parallel bars gold medal (14.166), with China’s Yin Dehang and Russia’s Sergei Naidin in second (13.800) and third (13.633), respectively.

Earlier, Briones won the vault title and finished fourth in the all-around and still rings, as well as fifth in the floor exercise and pommel horse finals.

In addition to hosting competition in 12 sports, the Youth Olympic Park also has a variety of cultural activities, including artistic workshops, collaborative murals, massive games and music shows.
