COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee today announced that standout performances from figure skater Nathan Chen (Salt Lake City, Utah), gymnast Simone Biles (Spring, Texas) and the U.S. men’s 4×100-meter track and field team earned the Best of October honors for Team USA Awards presented by Dow. All three are also finalists for the 2019 Team USA Awards presented by Dow, Best of the Year, with winners set to be announced during the awards show on Nov. 19 at Universal Studios in Los Angeles.

Becoming the most decorated gymnast in world championship history, Biles won five gold medals – the most since 1958 – at the FIG World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. During the competition, she competed two skills never performed by a female gymnast in competition: a double-double dismount on beam and a triple-double on floor, which will be named in her honor. Biles now has 25 career world medals – 19 golds, three silvers and three bronzes – as she works toward her second Olympic Games.

Chen captured his third Skate America title – becoming the third U.S. man to win three Skate America titles – with a score of 299.09 in Las Vegas. Chen performed three quad jumps, topping his previous record for largest margin of victory and winning by 44 points to earn his seventh consecutive gold medal dating back to the 2018 world championships.

Competing at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar, the U.S. men’s 4×100 team of Christian Coleman (Atlanta, Georgia), Justin Gatlin (Woodham, Florida), Noah Lyles (Alexandria, Virginia) and Mike Rodgers (Florissant, Missouri) won gold, shattering an American record and winning the event for the first time since 2007. With a time of 37.10 seconds, Team USA sliced .28 of a second off the American record from 2015, and became the second-fastest country of all time.

About the Team USA Awards
Each National Governing Body may nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline. An internal nominating committee selects five nominees from both the male and female categories, and three from the team category to advance to the voting round. Votes received from NGB representatives and select members of the media account for 50% of the final tally, with the other half determined by online fan voting via TeamUSA.org/Awards.
