PARIS, France (August 5, 2024) – In an eventful final day of artistic competition at the Olympic Games, Simone Biles (Spring, Texas) won her 11th career Olympic medal while Jordan Chiles (Vancouver, Wash.) claimed her first individual medal, second medal in Paris and third Olympic medal of her career Monday afternoon.

It was the fourth medal of the Paris Olympics Games for Biles and her 41st medal overall in Olympic or World Championships competition. The U.S. women’s artistic team closed out competition with eight medals – three gold, one silver and four bronze – with the men adding two bronze to bring the overall team total to 10.

Monday at Bercy Arena, Biles and Chiles went 2-3 in the final event of artistic action, winning floor exercise silver and bronze, respectively. Nursing a troublesome calf that she tweaked in warm-up, Biles scored a 14.133 to slot in just behind first place Rebeca Andrade of Brazil (14.166). Chiles was the last competitor of the day, performing a dazzling routine to land herself third on the Olympic podium with a 13.766.

Chiles was originally awarded a score of 13.666 to sit in fifth place, but an inquiry filed by her coach resulted in .100 being added to her score bumping her into the bronze-medal position.

Earlier in the afternoon, both Biles and Suni Lee (St. Paul, Minn.) competed in the Olympic balance beam final. In spite of each enduring a fall from the beam, both rallied to land fifth and sixth in the standings with matching scores of 13.100.

With artistic gymnastics concluded, action in the sport continues Thursday with Evita Griskenas (Orland Park, Ill.) in qualifying for rhythmic gymnastics.
