Based on their performances at the 2015 World Championships, Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre, and Danell Leyva of Miami, Fla./Team Hilton (Universal Gymnastics), have been nominated for the United States Olympic Committee’s Female and Male Best of November Awards, respectively. Biles became the first woman in history to win three straight World all-around titles at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships, and her 10 career World Championships gold medals are a record for most World Championships gold medals by a female gymnast. Biles had six gold medals going into the 2015 World Championships, where she added four golds – team, all-around, balance beam and floor exercise. Biles is the first U.S. gymnast, male or female, to garner 14 career World medals (10 gold, two silver, two bronze) and the first woman to earn four gold medals at consecutive World Championships.
In Glasgow, Leyva won his fifth world medal with silver on the high bar. Additionally, Leyva finished sixth on parallel bars and competed in the men’s all-around final. The 2012 Olympic all-around bronze medalist was also a crucial part of USA’s success in the men’s team competition. The U.S. men placed fifth and qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
