INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 16, 2016 – The accolades continue for four-time Olympic champion Simone Biles who was recently named to the Ebony Power 100 list and honored as one of its 2016 Women of the Year by Glamour magazine.

Biles made history at the 2016 Olympic Games by winning four gold medals and becoming the most decorated U.S. gymnast in history with her 19 World and Olympic medals. Biles’ four gold medals tie the Olympic record for a female gymnast in a single Games. She joins Mary Lou Retton, Shannon Miller and Nastia Liukin as the only U.S. women to collect five Olympic gymnastics medals at a single Games. A three-time World all-around champion (2013-15), Biles became the fourth female gymnast in Olympic history to capture back-to-back World and Olympic all-around titles and the first since Lilia Podkopayeva in 1996. She joins Douglas (2012), Liukin (2008), Carly Patterson (2004), and Retton (1984) as the only U.S. women to win an Olympic all-around title. Biles’ victory gave the United States a fourth consecutive gold medal in the women’s all-around, a feat no other country has accomplished at the Olympics in men’s or women’s gymnastics, and its fifth overall. Biles also won the USA’s first-ever women’s vault gold medal. She carried the U.S. flag in the closing ceremony by the U.S. athletes competing in Rio. The 2016 U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics Team received Team USA’s Team of the Olympic Games award from the United States Olympic Committee.

The Ebony Power 100 list honors the achievements of the 100 most influential African-American. Biles is featured as one of Ebony’s four cover stars, along with John Legend, Nas, and Ava DuVernay.

Glamour’s annual award celebrates women’s achievement and also supports Glamour’s philanthropic initiative The Girl Project, which provides funds for the secondary-school education of girls in 95 countries around the world. Past Women of the Year honorees include Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, Reese Witherspoon, Shonda Rhimes, Gloria Steinem, and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. The other 2016 honorees were Miuccia Prada, Christine Lagarde, Nadia Murad, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi, and Ashley Graham.
