INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Aug. 11, 2009 – Entering into its third year, the first episode of “USA Gymnastics: Behind the Team” allows fans to reconnect with members of the 2008 Olympic Team and learn about their lives since they left Beijing. Additionally, it sets the stage for the gymnasts heading to the 2009 Visa Championships, the first stop on the road to the 2009 World Championships in London.

“This time last year, the country was fascinated with the talent and accomplishments of the USA’s gymnasts as they took on the world in Beijing, and we believe the inside look ‘Behind the Team’ provided helped build the familiarity and interest in the U.S. effort,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “‘Behind the Team’ is a terrific opportunity for USA Gymnastics to build awareness of the next wave of gymnasts.”

The first episode features interviews with Nastia Liukin, the 2008 Olympic all-around champion, and most of her silver-medal teammates; 2008 Olympic horizontal bar silver-medalist Jon Horton and the majority of the bronze-medal team; and rising stars from both the men’s and women’s program. Women’s National Team Coordinator Martha Karolyi and Men’s National Team Coordinator Ron Brant also talk about Beijing and the prospects for the coming quad.

“Behind the Team” will have four episodes in 2009, with the second following up after the Visa Championships. The third and fourth episodes will focus on the 2009 World Championships, which will be held in the 2012 Olympic venue. The Web series will be found exclusively on att.net/teamusa.
