JAKARTA, Indonesia (October 19, 2025) – Four U.S. men sit in the top eight on five of the six apparatus Sunday evening to kick off the 2025 FIG Artistic World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. Two subdivisions have yet to compete as of Sunday evening; finalists will be determined at the conclusion of qualifying.

Donnell Whittenburg (Baltimore, Md./EVO Gymnastics) led American performances during competition, currently ranking first (14.700) on still rings and third (14.300) on parallel bars following Subdivision 4.

Each putting up top-two performances during Subdivision 4 competition were Patrick Hoopes (Lehi, Utah/U.S. Air Force Academy) and Kameron Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/Ohio State University), with Hoopes in second position on pommel horse (14.566) and Nelson doing the same on floor exercise (14.300).

Brody Malone (Aragon, Ga./EVO Gymnastics) also is in contention for the high bar final, scoring 14.166 to rank sixth on the apparatus.

Pommel horse specialist Brandon Dang (San Jose, Calif./University of Illinois) was in action on the apparatus Sunday, placing 12th overall in qualifying with a 13.900. Wittenburg was 28th on horizontal bar with a 12.566 after an unfortunate fall while Nelson sat ninth on vault with a combined 13.666 (13.466, 13.866).

Reigning U.S. all-around champion Asher Hong (Tomball, Texas/Stanford University) withdrew from the championships after suffering an ankle injury during warmups.

Men’s qualifying will continue October 19 at 11 p.m. ET, with the top eight on each apparatus determined once competition concludes. The U.S. women will compete in women’s qualifying October 20 at 11 p.m. ET.
