WINNIPEG, Can.- All U.S. individual and group rhythmic gymnasts have qualified to compete in the finals competition taking place Sunday, August 8, at the Investors Group Arena on the University of Manitoba campus.

Individual Competition

U.S. National Champion Jessica Howard of Jacksonville, Fla. completed the qualification rotations in first place with a combined score from Friday and Saturday of 37.965. Howard performed two solid ribbon and ball routines today, which moved her from fourth place after Friday to first place today.

"I am so happy with how I finished today. Unfortunately scores don’t carry over into finals, but this gives me so much extra confidence going into the competition," said Howard.

Kate Jeffress
of Rockville, Md., ranked second on the U.S. National Team, remained consistent by keeping her fifth place spot from yesterday. Jeffress scored 37.364.
"I was really nervous since this is the Pan Am Games, but I felt okay about my routines. Tomorrow will be a new start for me," said Jeffress.
Second place was earned by Cuba’s Yordania Corrales. She is followed by Canada’s Emilie Livingston and Erika Leigh Stirton in third and fourth place, respectively.
Gymnasts that finished in the top eight after Friday and Saturday advanced to the individual all-around finals on Sunday. No scores will carry over from qualification. Gymnasts will compete with all four apparatuses.

Group Competition

The United States group team placed third out of five groups after competition today and Friday, therefore advancing to the finals.
"We are happy with our score today, but tomorrow is what really counts," said group member Johanna Shoemaker. The top four of five groups after qualification on Friday and Saturday have advanced to the finals on Sunday. Scores from qualification will not carry over. Groups will perform a clubs routine and a hoop & ribbon routine in the finals.
