HUNTSVILLE, Texas, July 19, 2016 – The July Women’s Developmental Camp concluded over the weekend at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center, at the Karolyi Ranch, an official U.S. Olympic Training Site. Forty-five athletes participated in the five-day camp with two-a-day training sessions led by 1988 Olympic champion Valeri Liukin, Developmental Team Coordinator and the national coaching staff.

The developmental camp opened with physical abilities testing for the athletes. Maeve Hahn of First in Flight placed first, followed by teammate Anika Pretty. Hannah Hagle of Texas East Gymnastics was third. Hahn was also chosen as most improved athlete at camp by the national coaching staff.

This month’s camp included many new gymnasts who received invitations based on performances at the Level 9 Eastern/Western Championships and the Level 10 Junior Olympic National Championships. The coaches, along with the national coaching staff, began working on upgrades of skills and combinations for the next competitive year. Before heading home, the camp’s participants made “good luck” posters for the U.S. women’s Olympic training squad who are preparing for next month’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
