October 18, 2013 – Forty three athletes and their coaches participated in the five-day October Developmental Team camp at USA Gymnastics National Training Center at the Karolyi Ranch, a U.S. Olympic Training site, under the direction of Valeri Liukin, USA Gymnastics Developmental Team coordinator.

The top three athletes in the physical abilities testing were Alyona Shchennikova of TIGAR, Molly Frack of Parkettes and Jax Kranitz of Colorado Aerials Gymnastics Center. Caitlin Smith from Paramount Elite was recognized as most improved gymnast. The coaches attended lectures after each training session, including one that featured Rob Schwartz, the strength and conditioning coach with the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The athletes and coaches surprised Tammy Biggs, a member of the national coaching staff, and Liukin with t-shirts bearing their two favorite sayings: "Drill It. Don’t Kill It!" for Tammy, and "Do Your Medicine," the saying Liukin uses to conclude every camp to remind the gymnasts to do the work, including the basics.

The athletes who participated in the camp are training to compete elite in 2014 and return to the Ranch for a November camp.
