Forty-one gymnasts participated in 2015’s first women’s developmental camp at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center at the Karolyi Ranch, a U.S. Olympic Training Site. The five-day camp featured two-a-day training sessions led by Valeri Liukin, the developmental team coordinator, and the national coaching staff.

Each camp begins with physical abilities testing and includes verification. Kylie Coen, the highest scorer at last October’s Talent Opportunity Program (TOPS) national testing, from Empire Gymnastics placed first in testing, followed by Adeline Kenlin of Iowa Gym Nest and Shania Adams from Buckeye Gymnastics. Chelle Stack Marcella, a FIG Brevet judge, reviewed athletes’ routines for verification.

Taylor Rathke, the women’s program coordinator, organized team-bonding activities for the athletes, including a movie night with popcorn and painting nails. All of the athletes also received Under Armour apparel embroidered with USA Gymnastics.

Caitlin Smith of Paramount Elite Gymnastics was selected most improved camper. Upon their return to their gym clubs, the athletes and coaches will continue preparing for the upcoming National Qualifiers in February. The next developmental camp is scheduled for March.
