CHICAGO, Ill., June 18, 2009 – Three U.S. rhythmic gymnasts appeared on Chicago’s “CBS 2 News at 6 a.m.” to promote the 2009 Chicago Cup, which starts tomorrow at the Broadway Armory. The Chicago Cup is a three-day, international rhythmic gymnastics competition that features both all-around and individual event finals for both junior and senior divisions.

North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center’s Marlee Shape of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Kristin Kaye of Northbrook, Ill., and Philadelphia Rhythmic Academy’s Polina Kozitskiy of Fountainville, Pa., spoke about rhythmic gymnastics, as well as gave a brief demonstration of the ribbon, ball and clubs. Roseanne Tellez interviewed the three gymnasts, who also met Susan Carlson.

The competition schedule for the Chicago Cup is listed below. Individual session tickets for the Chicago Cup are $15 for June 19-20 and $20 for June 21. An all-session ticket, which provides access to all Chicago Cup sessions, is available for $45. Tickets are available at the door. Visa is the preferred method of payment.

    June 19 – All-around/junior and senior (Rope and Hoop) – 6 p.m. CT
    June 20 – All-around/junior and senior (Ball, Club and Ribbon) – 4 p.m. CT
    June 21 – Individual Event Finals/junior and senior – 2:30 p.m. CT

The U.S. squad for the Chicago Cup is comprised of: seniors – Ava Gehringer of Evanston, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics, Rachel Marmer of Los Angeles/Eurogymnastics, Michelle Milstein of Eagan, Minn./International Gymnastics of Minnesota, and Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md./Rhythmflex; and juniors – Jasmine “Jazzy” Kerber of Highland Park, Ill., Olga Pavlenko of Flushing, N.Y./Isadora, and Rebecca Sereda of Staten Island, N.Y./ Isadora. In addition to the U.S. team, the field will include gymnasts from Argentina, Canada, Finland, Mexico and Russia.

The U.S. Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior Olympic Championships, which showcases the country’s best Level 7-9 gymnasts, and the Level 10 Invitational are being held in conjunction with the Chicago Cup. The Junior Olympic Championships span six days, with competition at the Broadway Armory and Trinity International University.
