INDIANAPOLIS, November 1, 2019 – Twenty-eight women, including 16 invited gymnasts, and their personal coaches are expected to participate in the November U.S. Women’s National Team training camp at EVO Athletes in Sarasota, Fla., Nov. 15-18. The members of the 2019 U.S. Women’s World Championships Team, who won the World Team title last month, and the members of the World Championships training squad were excused from the November camp, which is the last one of the year. Of the 16 invited gymnasts, 2016 Olympic gold and silver medalist Laurie Hernandez of Old Bridge, N.J./Gym-Max, is best known and beginning her return to competitive gymnastics.

Women’s High-performance Team Coordinator Tom Forster is overseeing the four-day, working camp. The camp is an opportunity for athletes and their coaches to discuss their plans for 2020 with Forster and the national coaching staff. Additionally, the athletes and their coaches will have an opportunity for feedback from judges on scoring elements on all four apparatus.

“The last training camp of the year is always exciting and carries multiple objectives,” said Forster. “This camp will be especially busy with our seniors preparing for their final adjustments leading to an Olympic year and our juniors working on upgrades that will help them through next year. I am grateful we have such an experienced and dedicated staff, whose single purpose is to assist the personal coaches in their efforts to help our high-performance athletes reach their full potential.

“We are excited to welcome Laurie to her first training camp since 2016. Laurie’s accomplishments, work ethic and talent are an integral part of her return to competitive gymnastics. She has been working hard for many months, and we look forward to spending time with her and seeing her progress during training at camp.”
