The September 2017 Young Squad Camp was attended by 16 gymnasts from across the country. It took place at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center, September 26-30. The USA Junior Group also attended a simultaneous training camp at the OTC in preparation for the Pan American Championships this October. The Young Squad camp was the final training camp in the series of three September Squad camps. A total of 80 gymnasts and 46 coaches participated over the course of the multi-camp series.

The purpose of the development squad is to provide elite training opportunities as professional development for coaches working with skilled young rhythmic gymnasts. To this end, the experts and staff worked directly with coaches to ensure they understood the techniques being taught and specific areas of recommended work for their athlete(s).

This Young Squad camp provided an opportunity for gymnasts and coaches to receive expert instruction from Lana Lashoff, Galina Burns, Sonya Yankova, and Brooke Toohey. Each day, athletes had training sessions focusing on ballet, apparatus handling, and body preparation.

On the final day of camp, the young athletes had an exciting celebration watching a performance from the USA Junior Group and meeting the 2014 USA Olympic Bobsled teams who are currently preparing for the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The Young Squad camp included gymnasts born 2007 and younger by selection from JO Championships, Open Championships, and video submissions. Full selection procedures for the rhythmic squad camps can be found by clicking here.
