The 2017 Rhythmic Open Camp was a huge success drawing a record number or participants – 62 athletes and 16 coaches – for a fun and educational experience. The camp theme was, “Let’s Dance!” All participants had a fantastic time and learned a lot.

The highlight of camp was a visit from 2016 Olympian, Laura Zeng! Laura performed her Michael Jackson gala routine for the gymnasts and then they all learned one of the phrases from her dance! She also hosted a Q&A session with the girls and treated them to autographs and photos. It was a dream come true for many of the athletes!

The gymnasts had training sessions each day with Bibi Iontchev who introduced them to six different styles of dance over three days; ballet twice per day with national team ballet instructor, Sonya Yankova; body and apparatus technique work with national staff member, Galina Burns; and strength/conditioning with Christina Brown.

Additionally, there were coach-specific presentations and classes taught by various staff and coaches on the topics of artistic execution, technical execution, body preparation, Rhythmic Xcel, and even a coach ballet class! It was an inspiring time of collaboration and education for all.

Next up will be the Rhythmic Elite Squad Camp at the NTTC to wrap up the year.
