Utah and UCLA women’s gymnastics teams

INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 5, 2011 – The 2011 collegiate gymnastics season kicks off this weekend with 24 meets, including seven women’s and one men’s preseason top-20 matchups.

Competition begins on Friday, Jan. 7, when No. 5 Utah plays host to No. 1 UCLA in an early-season powerhouse matchup. Five Southeastern Conference top-20 teams will also be in action with No. 2 Alabama taking on No. 14 Penn State in Tuscaloosa, Ala.; No. 3 Florida hosting No. 10 Nebraska; No. 15 Auburn traveling to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State; No. 11 Arkansas matching up with No. 4 Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.; and No. 12 Louisiana State University traveling to Corvallis, Ore., to take on No. 8 Oregon State.

On Saturday, Jan. 8, two quad meets also will feature top-20 teams. No. 7 Georgia joins host No. 16 Denver, Brigham Young University and U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado, and No. 17 Illinois travels to Lexington, Ky., to meet Northern Illinois and Kentucky. Sunday boasts the Pac-10 Preview, where No. 19 Arizona, Arizona State, California and Oregon State will meet No. 1 UCLA and No. 6 Stanford.

Only one men’s gymnastics meet takes place this week with preseason No. 7 Penn State hosting No. 15 Army at University Park, Pa.
