Team Led by Reigning National Champion Paul Hamm and Defending Parallel Bars World Champion Sean Townsend

Indianapolis – A strong squad of U.S. men and women will compete November 20-24, in Debrecen, Hungary, at the 2002 World Gymnastics Championships for individual medals (no team competition or all-around).

The following members of the U.S. National Team will compete in Hungary:

Men

Paul Hamm – Waukesha, Wis./Team Chevron-Swiss Turners/Age 20 (floor exercise, pommel horse, high bar)
Jeff Johnson – Everson, Wash./University of Washington/Age 27 (still rings)
Brett McClure – Mill Creek, Wash./Team Chevron-USOTC/Age 22 (pommel horse, parallel bars, high bar)
Sean Townsend – Houston, Texas/Team Chevron-HGA/Age 23 (still rings, parallel bars)
Guard Young – Norman, Okla./Team Chevron-University of Oklahoma/Age 25 (floor exercise)

*2000 Olympian Morgan Hamm (Waukesha, Wis.) was expected to compete in floor exercise, but due to ankle discomfort, team alternate Guard Young will compete in his place.

November 20: Women’s Qualification Competition (2:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.)
November 21: Men’s Qualification Competition (2:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.)
November 22: Women’s Semi-Finals (1:00 p.m.-3:45 p.m.)
    Men’s Semi-Finals (6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.)
November 23: Men’s Finals – Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings
    Women’s Finals – Vault, Uneven Bars (4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.)
November 24: Men’s Finals – Vault, Parallel Bars, High Bar
    Women’s Finals – Balance Beam, Floor Exercise (4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.)
The 2002 World Gymnastics Championships will be televised on ESPN. The men’s competition will air Sunday, December 29, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and the women’s will air Thursday, January 2, from 9:30-11:30 p.m. Two highlight shows will be announced at a later date.
