Olympic Gold Medallist and Houston Resident Shannon Miller Expected to Compete

Indianapolis – USA Gymnastics will be bringing one of its premier events to Houston, Texas, on December 1. The 2001 Reese’s Gymnastics Cup will take place at the University of Houston Hofheinz Pavilion, featuring some of the biggest stars in the sport in an entertainment style team competition.

“Houston has a very strong gymnastics community and is an excellent market for USA Gymnastics to host the 2001 Reese’s Gymnastics Cup,” said Bob Colarossi, President of USA Gymnastics.
USA Gymnastics will invite premier gymnasts from around the world to compete in the 2001 Reese’s Gymnastics Cup. Confirmed competitors include Shannon Miller, the most decorated U.S. athlete in the history of gymnastics, three-time Olympian and four-time U.S. National Champion John Roethlisberger, and Olympians John Macready and Lance Ringnald. USA Gymnastics will announce a full roster in upcoming weeks.
Past competitors in the event are Olympic Gold Medallists Svetlana Khorkina, Dominique Moceanu, Dominique Dawes and Alexei Nemov, 1991 World Champion Kim Zmeskal, two-time Olympian and five-time U.S. National Champion Blaine Wilson, and 2000 Olympians Paul and Morgan Hamm.
The event will be hosted locally by the Houston International Sports Committee and managed in conjunction with Global Productions. “This is a great opportunity for Houston to host one of the premier events in the Olympic movement,” commented John Kelly, President of the Houston International Committee. “We expect the entire community to help make this event a huge success.”
The 2001 Reese’s Gymnastics Cup will be televised on NBC on December 9, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
