INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – 2005 world champions Chellsie Memmel of West Allis, Wis., Nastia Liukin of Parker, Texas, and Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass., and fellow 2005 teammate Jana Bieger of Coconut Creek, Fla., are among the 12 women invited to attend the U.S. Women’s Team Selection Camp for the 2006 World Championships, Oct. 14-21, in Aarhus, Denmark. The six-woman squad will be announced on Oct. 5, following the camp, Sept. 30-Oct. 5.

The 12 women invited to the camp are: Jana Bieger, Coconut Creek, Fla./Boca Twisters; Kayla Hoffman, Union, N.J./Rebound; Jacquelyn Johnson, Westchester, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics; Natasha Kelley, Katy, Texas/Stars Houston; Nastia Liukin, Parker, Texas/WOGA; Hilary Mauro, Hamilton, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics; Chellsie Memmel, West Allis, Wis./M&M; Ashley Priess, Hamilton, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics; Britney Ranzy, Gaithersburg, Md./Excalibur; Alicia Sacramone, Winchester, Mass./Brestyan’s; Randi Stageberg, Chesapeake, Va./Excalibur; Amber Trani, Richland, Pa./Parkettes.
Held at NRGi Arena, this year’s World Championships features team, all-around and individual event competition. Qualification rounds are Oct. 14-15 for the men and Oct. 16-17 for the women. The men’s team finals is Oct. 17, with the women’s team champions determined on Oct. 18. Both all-around finals are on Oct. 19, with the individual event finals divided over Oct. 20-21.
The U.S. Men’s Team for the World Championships is comprised of: Guillermo Alvarez of Denver/Team Chevron; Alexander Artemev of Morrison, Colo./Team Chevron; Jonathan Horton of Houston/University of Oklahoma; David Sender of Arlington Heights, Ill./Stanford University; Clay Strother of Jasper, Texas/Team Chevron; and Kevin Tan of Fremont, Calif./Penn State University. David Durante of Garfield, N.J./Team Chevron, is the alternate and will travel with the team.
