Question: How do I know if my child's gym does criminal background checks on the coaches? |

Ask! The gyms that conduct criminal background checks are usually happy to share the fact that they conduct criminal background checks with anyone who asks. For privacy reasons, it is unlikely they will share the specific results on a particular coach with you, but you could ask whether anyone on staff has ever been convicted of a crime involving children or is a registered sex offender. If the response is yes, or if the gym doesn't conduct background checks, I suppose you'll have a decision to make about whether you want to have your kids at that gym. |
