Question: My son/daughter does not like the high bar event. What can I do to help? |
|
When someone doesnt like something, whether it is a skill, event, or activity, there is usually a reason. Acknowledging the reason, right or wrong, is half the task. If the reason revolves around fear, perhaps raising the mats under the high bar or lowering the high bar might help. Sometimes this is a time consuming activity for the coach, when he/she has five to six other gymnasts that dont have a fear. Sometimes, arranging a private will reduce or eliminate the fear. This will allow the gymnast to develop a plan or a comfort for the next class.
