NAIGC Championships begin on Thursday in Salt Lake City
posted on 04/18/2012

The NAIGC (National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs), with support from TheGymNC, is holding its National Championships on April 19-21, 2012, in Salt Lake City, Utah. This year's 24th annual National Championships will bring together 58 clubs and 650 competitors from across the country.

Dates: April 19-21, 2012
Location: Salt Palace Convention Center
Preliminary competition:
Thursday 12:20 pm - 11:00 pm and Friday 8:50 am - 11:30 pm
Finals competition:
Saturday 11:50 am - 4:00 pm
Admission: Free, donations accepted

The story to watch on the men's side will be Eli Richardson from Texas A&M University. Eli has captured the All-Around title for the last three years running. Other top finishers from previous years include Clint Gyory (Pennsylvania State University), Bryce Cashell (Texas State University), and Brian Hulbert (NAIGC Alumni). With the previous top 4 finishers on three events not attending this year, there is an opportunity for newcomers in the field to make their mark.

There has also been significant turnover on the women's side with the top 3 finishers from last year's meet not returning this year. The leaders in the field are Zara Karuman (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Michelle Adams (Miami University). Another contender may be Renee McEntire who did not compete All-Around the last two years, but placed 2nd in 2009.

We are expecting a very exciting event with many new individuals and several new clubs in the mix! We invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to see great gymnastics and truly hope that Nationals 2012 proves to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

About the NAIGC:
The National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs (NAIGC) is an organization dedicated to the promotion and support of collegiate club gymnastics. Under the direction of Marvin Johnson, the NAIGC hosted its first annual national championships in 1989, promoting club gymnastics "for the love of the sport." In 2006, the NAIGC elected its first Board of Directors and incorporated as a non-profit organization; the NAIGC was recognized as a tax-exempt public charity in 2008. Today, a dedicated group of volunteers runs the NAIGC—an elected board of directors comprised primarily of current and former NAIGC gymnasts, alongside their appointed advisors. The NAIGC promotes competition in gymnastics at the collegiate club level and provides support to its member clubs through a variety of technological resources and support services. Club membership in the NAIGC is open to any collegiate gymnastics club in the United States. Individual membership is open to anyone with an interest in collegiate club gymnastics.
