1968 Olympian Allen passes away

Kanati Allen, a member of the U.S. Olympic team at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, passed away Dec. 31, 2011, at his home in Los Angeles. A wake was held yesterday for Allen, and funeral services are scheduled for today at 10 a.m. at the Angeles Funeral Home in L.A.

In addition to the 1968 Olympics, Allen served as an alternate for the 1966 World Championships team and competed at the 1970 Worlds, helping team USA to a seventh place finish. Allen also earned third place in the all-around and on the floor exercise at the 1967 NCAA Championships as a member of the UCLA gymnastics team.

Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from UCLA and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Washington.
