
In addition to the 1968 Olympics, Allen served as an alternate for the 1966 World Championships team and competed at the 1970 Worlds, helping team USA to a seventh place finish. Allen also earned third place in the all-around and on the floor exercise at the 1967 NCAA Championships as a member of the UCLA gymnastics team.
Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from UCLA and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Washington.
