USA wins nine medals at 2011 World Age Group Competition

BIRMINGHAM, England, Nov. 27, 2011 – The United States finished the 2011 Trampoline and Tumbling World Age Group Competition in Birmingham, England, with a total of nine medals – two gold, three silver and four bronze.

Shaylee Dunavin of Amarillo, Texas/All American Gymnastics, was the only double medalist at the World Age Group Competition for the USA. Competing in the 15-16 age division, she won the gold medal for double mini-trampoline and a bronze for trampoline.

The U.S. medalists are listed in alphabetical order by medal.

Gold

  • James Lichtenstein, Buffalo Grove, Ill./5 Star Tumbling and Trampoline, men's 17-18 double mini-trampoline
  • Tyler Waller, Bloomington, Ill./Gymnastics Etc., men's 15-16 double mini-trampoline
Bronze
  • Kristin Day, Reynoldsville, Pa./Uzelac Gymnastics, women's 17-18 double mini-trampoline
  • Shaylee Dunavin, Amarillo, Texas/All American Gymnastics, women's 15-16 trampoline
  • Austin Nacey, Braidwood, Ill./TwistStars Tumbling & Trampoline, men's 17-18 tumbling

On the final day of competition, the USA had three athletes and two synchro teams qualify for the finals but they missed the medals podium. The 15-16 women's synchro teams of Audrey Ghanian of Holmdel, N.J./Ultra Twisters, and Dunavin, and Erynn Stier of Morley, Mich./Branch Gymnastics, and Nicole Sperling of Hudsonville, Mich./Branch Gymnastics, finished fifth and sixth, respectively. In 13-14 double-mini, Alyssa Long of McHenry, Ill./5 Star Tumbling and Trampoline, and Christina Webster of Oden, Ind./Tumbling Express, finished sixth and eighth, respectively, for the women, and Christopher Doerr of Trabuco Canyon, Calif./World Elite, was seventh in the men's final.
