The TOP (Talent Opportunity Program) enters into its 18 season. State TOP testing begins the weekend of May 29 marking the start of the 18th season for TOPs.
TOPs is a talent search and educational program for female gymnast ages 7-11 and their coaches. During the months of June and July gymnasts age 7-11 are evaluated on physical abilities at the state level. From there, athletes are invited to participate in the National TOP test that is conducted in the month of October where the athletes will be evaluated on the same physical abilities tests along with basic gymnastics skills. From National TOP Testing, athletes are invited to participate in the National TOP Training camp which takes place in December of each year. Former TOP athletes include Carly Patterson, Chellsie Memmel, Courtney Kupets, Tasha Schwikert, Alicia Sacramone, and Samantha Peszek, just to name a few.
New for this year: The 8 year olds will now be invited to the National TOP Testing in October for an opportunity to be invited to the National TOP Training camps scheduled for December.
Detailed descriptions of the Physical Abilities and Skills tests along with the testing dates are available on the TOPs section of the Women’s Program webpage.
