2009 Coach/Athlete Development Initiatives The USA Gymnastics Women’s program is pleased to announce several coaching development initiatives for 2009. All of the following are scheduled at the National Training Center (Karolyi Camp) in Texas.

August 6-9, 2009
2009 Women’s J.O. Compulsory Level Training Camp

  • The focus of this camp will be on preparation and training of the J.O. compulsory program and tips for athlete preparation.
  • This J.O. Compulsory Training Camp will be open for all Levels 4-6 athletes. (Min. age is 9 in the calendar year).
  • Women’s J.O. Committee members and other National Team Coaches will staff the camp. Tom Koll, National J.O. Committee Chairman, is the lead Master Clinician for this Training Camp.
  • Coaching lectures and athlete activities will be held in the evenings.
  • Space is limited
Tentative schedule:
  • Thursday, August 6 – Arrivals, check-in, evening training (begins approximately 3:30-4:00 p.m. followed by the first camp meal).
  • August 7 and 8 – Training at the National Training Center (2-1-day training periods and an evening activity).
  • Sunday, August 9 – Morning training with departures in the afternoon after lunch
Costs for each coach:
    Clinic fee= $200
    Room and board*=$225
    Total cost = $425

  • Coaches: The clinic is recommended for compulsory coaches & novice optional coaches.
  • Athletes: USAG Level 6, 7, 8 athletes. (Min. age is 9 years in the calendar year.)
  • Goals: This technique and spotting camp is intended to assist coaches in their spotting technique for optional skills for Level 6-8 such as, layouts and 1/1’s on TU/FX; beginning Tsukaharas and RO entry on VT; series and layouts on BB; pirouettes, circles, giants, basic releases, and dismounts on UB; etc.
  • Coaches bring their own athletes who will serve as the demonstrators during the activity sessions. NOTE: Attending coaches MUST bring an athlete — and attending athletes MUST attend with their coach. Coaching lectures will be conducted in the evening.
  • The staff will include high level coaches.
  • Space is limited

* The camp participants (coaches and athletes) will be housed at the camp Thursday-Saturday. Meals will be served beginning with the evening meal on Thursday, August 6 and ending with lunch on Sunday, August 9.
